SELLING GUIDE

As a shop owner who spends most of the time in-store, I always appreciate when people bring items in to sell. You can expect an average wait time of approximately 5 to 45 minutes, depending on the amount of stuff you bring in. If you have a lot of items, please feel free to drop off the clothing with a staff member and I will get to it and give you a call back.

You’re here. What next? I will give you a quick brief of what we are currently buying and will look through your items piece by piece – deciding what to buy and how much to price it for. I price the item right there at the counter, total the selling prices of all the items selected, and pay you 30% of the total marked prices or offer you 50% in store credit. So, you’ll know exactly what your pieces are being priced at and how much you’ll be making (plus, you get paid on the spot).

But how do the buyers decide? The decision of whether or not to buy an item is based on a few key factors:  Foggy Notion inventory is hand-curated so I consider the decade, cut, color, and fabric of your item, as well as the condition. We also buy seasonally. We buy vintage from antiques to Early 2000’s, vintage clothing, accessories, jewelry, music (CDs, tapes, vinyl), shoes, boots, counter culture books, weird art, and more. When in doubt, just bring it in! THE WEIRDER THE BETTER. We try to be very transparent about our pricing and of course, feel free to ask for a second opinion if you don’t feel we are valuing your item correctly.

Here are a few FAQs that we hope will answer any last questions you may have. If you still have questions, give us a call or just come on in.

FAQS

Selling your clothes is not only a good way to keep your wardrobe fresh, but it’s also eco-friendly. We want your selling experience to be a positive one, so here are some frequently asked questions about how we work:

When do you buy clothes from the public and do I need to make an appointment?

You do not need an appointment to sell clothes, but as the shop owner, I can only buy when I’m there and sometimes I’m not. The best time to bring clothing in is Wednesday-Friday from 12-5. If you’re only free weekends, Sundays work great too! If none of those times work, shoot me an email and I can be sure to meet you at the shop when it’s convenient for you.

What is Foggy Notion looking for?

Vintage from the ‘20s through the ‘90s. We look for items that are really special, whether it be a quality vintage designer piece, a unique and relevant vintage one, or a fashion-forward item that you don’t see everyday. Again, the weirder the better and when in doubt- bring it in. I don’t care if there are stains or holes, sometimes those look good.
Items we never say no to: Old Levi’s, Vintage band shirts, vintage tees (one-stitch), groovy/psychedelic pieces, cowboy boots, suedes/leathers/furs)

Do I have to wait for my clothes to sell before I get paid?

No, we buy clothing outright for 30% cash or 50% in-store credit of our retail price. You get paid on the spot (in cash for a total less than $50 or by Venmo/Check/Cash App for a total over $50). Unlike consignment, you receive your cash right away.

Can your buyers come to my house?

If you have a lot to sell, maybe you acquired an estate, or you too love to hoard, I’m more than willing to go to your house or storage and go through it. Send me an email and we can arrange a time and go from there.

What does it mean if Foggy Notion passes on my items?

Please, don’t take it personally! I do my best to help our customers by buying from them too, but I can only buy what I think can sell. I also buy according to the season and our stock but I will be happy to let you know if there is something you can bring at a later date or what store around town you could sell it to.
